There is something to be said for a week without technology….I have to admit I loved it.  I just spent my last week of vacation trying to be very good, which means no Blackberry, no checking email, and although I did check it a few times, overall I was very impressed with myself.

I wanted my last week of vacation to be a total technology free week.  I wanted to spend more time disconnected then connected and enjoy the simple pleasures that a week at the cottage offers.

The sunsets were amazing; the quiet walks in the morning were just as nice.  The hot cup of coffee on the deck with a full lake view was picture perfect.  I have to say I could really get used to that full time.

I often found myself wondering what it would be like to walk away from the “wired world” and live a more simple life.  Of course, not quite sure how I would pay for this “simple life” without being part of that “wired world”…LOL!

Luckily for me the closest thing I have at the college that is remotely “technological” is the microwave…really, no kidding.  No phones (other than cell), no internet, in fact no cable of any kind, our rabbit ears pick up 3 channels, and that’s on a good day.

So, trips to the cottage are definitely very low key, with a lot of time for catching up on reading, something I rarely do at home.  Not to mention the endless projects that seem to come along with owning a cottage.

Although I’m not entirely in a position to leave the computers, internet behind, it’s definitely nice to get away without the wires.  It’s a wonderful treat to give yourself, especially when so many of us are immersed in a techie life.

So, if you haven’t yet, I encourage you to take a technology free week.  Just you, a perfect view and a good book!  You’ll be glad you did.
