“Simplicity is making the journey of this life with just enough baggage”
-Charles Dudley Warner
I absolutely love this quote! For me, simple has always been my motto. Okay, ha, ha, ha…I don’t mean the other definition of simple, lack of mental acuteness. I am referring to: the state, quality or an instance of being simple, freedom from complexity.
I have always believed in the power of keeping things simple. In my business and when I can in my personal life, keeping things simple has always kept me extremely grounded and a little less “nutso”.
I find that we all have a tendency to over complicate things way too much. Have you ever been working on a project for hours and take a step back only to realize that you could have taken a more simple approach and would have been completed in much less time?
I know I have. Sometimes we go into a project or situation with the mindset that it will be much harder, take us longer, or be more complicated than it actually is. So in a way we already set ourselves up for making a situation much more complex than in reality it is. Since we have labelled it difficult we have a tendency to make it difficult.
It’s funny how that works.
I have always been drawn to simplicity, the simpler it is to use, to make work, to understand is normally the perfect item for me. Not because I am intimidated by complexity, but because if I can’t figure it out in a matter of minutes, then I really do not need it in my life. Complexity for me is just one more cause of stress, and that’s one thing I can do without these days. That we all can do without.
So when I came across this quote, I thought about how perfect it was and wanted to share it with all of you. We need a little reminder every now and then about the power of simplicity.
Let’s just make it simple this month…shall we?
